Our accounts for the previous financial year
In June of each year we are obliged to present the final accounts for the year that ended at 31 March of the same year.
This document is called the Statement of Accounts. It is very technical in its content mainly because we are obliged to follow the format set out by the Government. However it does show a lot of information and reports on how the budget for the year was managed.
The latest version of the Statement of Accounts is available below:
Statement of Accounts 2021 to 2022 (draft)
Our auditors Ernst & Young have asked for the following statement to be published on the website.
"The maintenance and integrity of the Borough Council of King's Lynn and West Norfolk website is the responsibility of the audited body; the work carried out by the auditors does not involve consideration of these matters and, accordingly, the auditors accept no responsibility for any changes that may have occurred to the financial statements since they were initially presented on the website."
Annual Governance Statement
We have a statutory duty to produce a statement each year which is designed to provide assurance concerning governance arrangements. It sets out how effective we have been in meeting the commitments set out in our Code of Corporate Governance.
The Annual Governance Statement is signed by our Council Leader and Chief Executive and is required to be published alongside the annual Statement of Accounts. Its scope, however, is corporate and is not restricted to financial issues.
For this reason we publish the Statement separately to the Statement of Accounts.
We approved the 2019 Annual Governance Statement which reviewed the 2018/19 financial year as part of the Statement of Accounts at a meeting on 25 January 2021.
More information on corporate governance and the background to the Annual Governance Statement can be found on our corporate governance page.
