Information about our Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment (GTAA)
What is a Gypsy and traveller accommodation assessment (GTAA)?
National policy for Gypsies, travellers and travelling show-people is set out in the 2015 Planning policy for traveller sites. This requires local authorities to develop fair and effective strategies to meet need through the identification of plot sites for Gypsies, travellers and travelling show-people; i.e. ensuring provision for sufficient sites (including land allocations) in the Local Plan.
2023 GTAA
Opinion Research Services (ORS) was appointed by the Borough Council in 2022 to prepare a new GTAA for the Borough. This covers the period 2023-2039, corresponding with the end-date for the emerging draft Local Plan period (to 2039).
The updated GTAA will inform the ongoing Local Plan examination, anticipated to conclude in 2024.
The 2023 GTAA replaces the 2016 Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Needs Assessment (GTANA), which was submitted as supporting evidence base with the draft Local Plan (March 2022).
