Town Hall will light up to mark PoTs Awareness Day

Postural Tachycardia Syndrome Awareness Day

Published: Friday, 22nd October 2021

King’s Lynn Town Hall will be lit up Purple on 25th October to mark Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (PoTS).

Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (PoTS) is a disabling condition which mostly affects young adults. The aim of PoTS is to improve services for people suffering from PoTS.

Raising awareness of PoTS is even more important than ever, as they are becoming aware of an increasing number of reports of people developing PoTS and other types of autonomic dysfunction after contracting Covid-19.

Chloe Garner, trustee for the charity PoTS UK, who made the request to light up the Town Hall said: "Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (PoTS) is an abnormality of the autonomic nervous system (ANS). 23% of patients are wheelchair users and only 7% are mobile without restriction.
"Many are housebound or unable to work or care for their family. PoTS is widely misdiagnosed and inadequately treated with 50% of sufferers being told that their physical disability is due to anxiety and/or depression.

"Even after diagnosis, services for sufferers are extremely limited, leading to high rates of social isolation, financial hardship and mental health issues. Concerningly, PoTS is being diagnosed in long-Covid patients; experts anticipate an explosion of postural tachycardia syndrome."

King’s Lynn Town Hall will be lit up Purple from dusk on Monday evening of 25 October.
