Inter Faith Week runs from 14 to 21 November, and aims to highlight faith communities and inter faith activity across the UK, including engagement between those of religious and non-religious beliefs.
Inter Faith Week has been held annually since it was launched in 2009 by the Inter Faith Network, with the aims of:
- strengthening good inter-faith relations at all levels
- increasing awareness of the different and distinct faith communities in the UK, in particular celebrating and building on the contribution which their members make to their neighbourhoods and to wider society
- increasing understanding between people of religious and non-religious beliefs
Cllr Harry Humphrey, Mayor of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk, said: “How we get on as people of different faiths and beliefs is more important than ever, and this special week brings a focus to that. Throughout the year, the mayor’s office organises a number of commemorative events and services, and I’m very pleased that they are always attended by representatives of a wide range of faiths.
“Remembering Srebrenica, Holocaust Memorial Day, Remembrance Day – these events are all about coming together to commemorate the lives of those lost, and to try understand each other better, so such atrocities never happen again. Whatever our faith, we attend these services because we are united in our belief that a happier, more peaceful world is possible”.
