The Salvation Army Trading Company are encouraging residents to use any one of their 7,500 sustainable textile banks available nationwide.
Their aim is to encourage people to reuse and recycle unwanted goods including clothing, shoes and handbags while also helping to combat climate change. To find your nearest textile bank to donate to visit http://www.salvationarmydonationcentre.org/bank-finder.
Cllr Paul Kunes, Cabinet member for Environment, explains: “In the last three years the Salvation Army has collected and recycled nearly 1000 tonnes of textiles, shoes and handbags donated by residents in west Norfolk. They are able to reuse, repurpose and recycle these donations.”
The profits that the Salvation Army Trading Company receives is given to The Salvation Army to continue the work they do such as, specialist support for survivors and potential victims of modern slavery, shelter for those experiencing homelessness and more.
Norfolk County Council has also teamed up with The Salvation Army’s ‘Recycle with Michael’ scheme to offer all Norfolk schools the chance to do just that by recycling textiles.

Many Norfolk recycling centres have Reuse Shops, where you can donate your good quality unwanted items instead of dumping them, and pick up a bargain.
