Three parish council elections will be re-run due to insufficient candidates when elections were originally held in May.

To ensure the parishes of Burnham Overy, Houghton and Northwold (Northwold and Whittingham Ward) are quorate, nominations are being sought for candidates now.

The Notices of Election for Parish Council elections in those areas has been published today, Wednesday 17 May 2023. The notices can be found at west-norfolk.gov.uk/upcomingelections.

Nominations will close at 4pm on Thursday 25 May and, as long as enough candidates are nominated, elections will be held on Thursday 22 June 2023.

Polling Stations will open from 7.00 am to 10.00 pm during which time the electorate will have the opportunity to cast their votes.

The Electoral Services team at the Borough Council of King's Lynn and West Norfolk is urging everyone to make sure they make their vote count by checking that they are registered to vote. Anyone whose name is not included on the Register of Electors has until Tuesday, 6 June 2023 to apply.

Residents planning to vote at the polling station will require photographic ID. Accepted forms of ID include a UK, European Economic Area (EEA) or Commonwealth passport; a UK or EEA drivers’ licence; and some concessionary travel passes, such as an older person’s bus pass. Voters will be able to use expired ID if they are still recognisable from the photo.

Anyone who does not have one of the accepted forms of ID is able to apply for free ID online at voter-authority-certificate.service.gov.uk or by completing a paper form by 5pm on 14 June 2023.

The full list of accepted ID is available on the Electoral Commission’s website, along with more information about the new requirement and details of how to apply for the free ID, at electoralcommission.org.uk/voterID.

Anyone not able to vote in person can apply for a postal or proxy vote. The deadline for new postal vote applications is 5pm on Wednesday, 7 June 2023.
