Next round of CIL applications opens soon

Do you have a local project that requires funding?

Published: Wednesday, 31st May 2023

Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) applications will open on 1 July and community groups will have until 1 August to apply.

CIL funding is drawn from a levy on development in the borough and can be used for a variety of projects that improve community assets.

Cllr Jim Moriarty, cabinet member for development and regeneration, said:

“Now is the time to get thinking about how CIL funding could work for your project.

“With people getting outside as the weather warms up, perhaps you would like to think about outdoor assets your community could enjoy. You might be thinking further ahead to facilities or services that people will benefit from in colder months. Either way, if you have an idea for a scheme that could be funded by CIL, we would love to hear from you.”

For community projects, sums of £2,000-£30,000 may be applied for. They should be in one of the following areas:

  • education – local initiatives
  • health
  • economic development
  • community facilities
  • green infrastructure
  • open space and leisure
  • community transport

Larger, infrastructure projects can also be funded for more than in the areas of 18+ adult education, green infrastructure and leisure time activities.
