The Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk runs a Council Tax Support Scheme, which is designed to help working age people with the cost of their Council Tax if they are on a low income.
This is separate from the Government’s national scheme for pension age people. This scheme is reviewed annually and each time the council invites all residents to have their say on the scheme – that consultation is now open.
Cllr Chris Morley, Cabinet Member for Finance, said:
“Every household in west Norfolk pays Council Tax so it is right that they have the opportunity to comment on this scheme and I would urge everyone to take part.
“We are proposing something different to what the borough council has offered in the past. Our current scheme covers 84% of the eligible household’s council tax bill. The proposed new scheme offers no cap on support and can cover up to the full amount, 100%, of the council tax bill for all eligible working age people.”
Details of the proposed scheme and the consultation questionnaire are available on the council’s website at west-norfolk.gov.uk/ctsconsultation. The consultation closes on 1 October 2023.
