A borough council development of homes in Hunstanton is about to go on the market – with preference to buy given to local people.
The apartments of Styleman Court, off Southend Road, will provide 32 much-needed homes in the town.
Cabinet member for business, Cllr Alistair Beales, said: “It’s great to see this development coming towards completion and reach the point where people – and it’s important to note we mean local people – can start signing up for these homes.
“This is a high-quality development that will help us to meet the needs of people in Hunstanton.”
The £6.8m scheme is the result of a partnership between the Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk and development firm Lovell. Funding includes a £520,000 Homes England grant under its Accelerated Construction Programme, which helps authorities to deliver new homes more quickly.
The design of the scheme is inspired by Hunstanton’s Victorian heritage. It uses traditional materials and design details to complement the architectural styles of the town, with modern elements incorporated to give it a contemporary feel.
It incorporates 12 1-bed, 18 2-bed and 2 3-bed apartments, based around a central courtyard. Parking and undercroft parking will have EV charging infrastructure built in and secure cycle storage will also be included. 6 of the homes will be classed as affordable, offering a mix of affordable rent and shared ownership tenures.
The council also decided to incorporate bee and sparrow bricks into the development: these are not required under the planning consent but are an optional extra that the council has chosen to undertake as part of its biodiversity commitments.
When sold the flats will have covenants on them requiring owners to use the property as their main home, so they are not used as holiday homes or lets. Others will only be able to buy them if all local demand has been satisfied.
The council has selected William H Brown as the selling agent for the scheme. The properties will go live for sale on Boxing Day.
