Borough Council recommends candidate for Chief Executive role

Published: Thursday, 30th May 2024

The Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk has identified its recommended candidate for the role of Chief Executive.

Following a two day recruitment process that included an assessment centre and formal interview, the council’s appointment panel has made a provisional offer to Kate Blakemore.

Currently Strategic Director of Corporate Services with East Suffolk Council, Kate’s nomination as Chief Executive will now be recommended to Cabinet on 3 June before being taken to full Council on 17 June.

The proposed appointment comes after current Chief Executive Lorraine Gore announced her plans to retire later this summer.

Councillor Alistair Beales, Leader of the Borough Council said:

“Following a rigorous and thorough recruitment process, the appointment panel is delighted to recommend Kate Blakemore as our preferred candidate for the position of Chief Executive.

“This vacancy attracted highly skilled and experienced candidates, and we are grateful for everyone who expressed an interest in this hugely important role for west Norfolk.

“Kate is an extremely impressive individual who we believe can be an exceptional Chief Executive for this authority and ambassador for west Norfolk, particularly as we move forward with the delivery of our aspirational corporate strategy.

“As we look ahead to the future, I would like to also thank Lorraine Gore for everything she has done for the council and for West Norfolk during her tenure, and for the significant difference she has made for our area and our residents.”

A further update on the appointment of the Chief Executive role will be made after full council on 17 June.
