Lily have a place to go this Loneliness Awareness Week

Loneliness Awareness Week 2024

Published: Friday, 31st May 2024

From Monday 10 June 2024 people and organisations join together to raise awareness of loneliness during Loneliness Awareness Week. Lily in west Norfolk is planning a place to go for support.

Lily, which is managed by the Borough Council of King's Lynn & West Norfolk, helps people who are feeling lonely or isolated by supporting them to connect to organisations that can help in the area.

On Saturday 8 June the Lily team will be based in The Place, New Conduit Street, in King’s Lynn town centre to offer support and advice alongside other local organisations from 10am until 2.30pm.

Judith Berry, Community Health and Wellbeing Manager at the Borough Council said: “This year’s theme for Loneliness Awareness Week is ‘Random Acts of Connection’ and Lily will be promoting this at the event on the 8 June, encouraging everyone to increase those simple everyday moments of connection which help us feel happier and less lonely.”

“It can be as simple as talking to the person you are sitting next to on public transport or joining a local group to meet new people”.

“Over the course of the week our Lily team will be working to raise awareness of the impacts of loneliness through their social channels and will then be inside The Place on Saturday 8th June with partners to highlight the support available. Lily will also be on the Wellness on Wheels bus in Hunstanton on Monday 10 June.”

Lily also has a local online directory containing around 3,000 listings. The Directory aims to help local people find local activities, events and services www.asklily.org

Follow the Lily Facebook and Twitter feeds, @LilyWestNorfolk, throughout the week for support with combating loneliness.

Lily helps people who are feeling lonely or isolated by supporting them to connect to organisations that can help in the area.

The service offers 1-to-1 support to adults (18+) whose loneliness is the primary issue affecting their health & wellbeing.  Clients are supported to:

  • Access social activities, volunteering opportunities, community services and assets
  • Identify and overcome barriers that prevent them becoming connected
  • Reconnect with family & friends and make new connections in their community.
