The Hunstanton Soap Box Derby has received more entrants than ever before. The maximum number of 60 entries have been received but the borough council has reopened for more younger teams to apply.

Roger Partridge, Race Director of the Soap Box Derby for the Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk, explained: “We’ve never received the maximum number of entries for our whacky racing but this year we’ve done it! But we need more, we want to encourage younger teams to get in touch with us to increase the competition in the younger categories.

“We’ve opened up five more spaces for junior teams to enter. If you’re aged between 10 to 12 years old or 13 to 15 years old we want to hear from you. Speak to the adults in your life, ask them to help you put your kart together and then you could be racing down the street in Hunstanton on 22 September. It will be an incredible experience.”

Dave Morton, Business Operations Manager for the borough council, added: “The Soap Box Derby attracts thousands of spectators to the town. Our teams do an amazing job organising it and I thank them for what they do. This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to drive their homemade kart down the hill in Hunstanton in front of a large crowd. I look forward to seeing their creations and urge them to register for a place fast as we only have five spaces available.”

The deadline for additional junior entries is 26 July.
