Hunstanton rocks this weekend

Battle of the Bands 2024

Published: Wednesday, 31st July 2024

The second annual Hunstanton Rocks festival returns to the town this weekend. It’s a mega weekend of free musical entertainment provided on the Green in Hunstanton by the borough council.

On Saturday 3 August the finals of the West Norfolk Battle of the Bands competition will take place, in collaboration with Radio West Norfolk. Designed to showcase up and coming talent together with some of the best bands in local music, the event will see four finalists battling it out for the top prize - a place on stage performing at next year’s Festival Too.

The competition was won by Wicca, a goth rock quintet, last year. Jack from the band said:

“Over a thousand people turned up to the Battle of the Bands in Hunstanton last year. It was the biggest show we’ve ever done, until we performed on stage at Festival Too a few weeks back.”

Simon Rowe hosts the competition that starts at 2pm, with the first band on stage at 2:15pm. Each band has 30 minutes on stage to impress the judges. The winner is expected to be announced at about 5pm.

“This is another fabulous weekend of musical entertainment in Hunstanton”

Said Cllr Bal Anota, Cabinet member for Events and Open Space.

“All bands are long-established, high-quality bands, very experienced at providing upbeat music to entertain all tastes.

“We hope people will bring their chairs and blankets on both days and establish their place on the Green. Bands on Saturday will need everybody’s encouragement and support so come and cheer them along. Sunday will be great entertainment, come to the green and enjoy the performances.

“The borough council wishes to thank Festival Too for their cooperation with our Battle of the Bands competition. A place on the stage at Festival Too is a dream for any local artist. Good luck to all the bands and I hope they enjoy their time on our stage in Hunstanton.”
