People are being asked for their views on walking and cycling in King’s Lynn and surrounding villages to inform a plan that will make it easier for those on bike and foot to get around the area.

The Vision King’s Lynn Walking and Cycling Survey – which can be found here https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/CF5WNLW – is taking place to understand how easy it is for walkers and cyclists to navigate King’s Lynn town centre, the Woottons, West Winch, Clenchwarton Pott Row and Grimston.
Based on the feedback from respondents, a local walking and cycling plan will be drawn up by Norfolk County Council that will include improvements for walking and cycling provision in the area.
This plan will link into the Town Investment Plan which is currently being developed and which, if approved by Government, could bring £25M in funding into King’s Lynn.
Young people and schools in particular are being encouraged to share their thoughts about walking and cycling in the area to help to shape future improvements, and everyone who completes the survey can enter a prize draw to win one of three prizes of £50 worth of shopping vouchers too.
The local walking and cycling plan is being developed as active travel is becoming more important, with the wellbeing and physical fitness benefits of walking and cycling well documented and people often keener to take different, more environmentally friendly forms of travel.
Councillor Andrew Jamieson, Norfolk County Council’s Cycling and Walking Champion and a member of the King’s Lynn Town Board said: “We want to make King’s Lynn and its surrounding villages a more accessible area for residents and visitors, so it is important that people take part in this survey so that we understand people’s experiences of cycling and walking locally.
“We would urge people to please do tell us what you think. Your feedback will help to shape a robust and targeted walking and cycling plan for the area which will allow us to make improvements for walkers and cyclists.”
The survey comes after consultation by Vision King’s Lynn last December found almost 30 per cent of respondents usually walk into the town centre whilst 7 per cent normally travel by bike, underlining the importance of these modes of transport.
Graham Purkins, Chair of the Town Board added: “Connectivity is one of the themes of the Town Investment Plan and a vital part of that is making sure King’s Lynn is accessible for all, including for walkers and cyclists.
“Consultation and engagement is at the heart of shaping improvements for the town – we want to understand and meet the needs of the people who use and will be using the area in future. Please do have your say in this important survey.”
The survey closes at 5pm on Sunday 11 October.
